Fifteen Duramed FUTURES Tour Members Advance to LPGA Finals

LAKELAND, Fla., Sept. 23, 2007 -- Fifteen members of the Duramed FUTURES Tour were among the 31 players who advanced into the LPGA Final Qualifying Tournament from this week’s sectional qualifier in Rancho Mirage, Calif. The Tour member finishing with the lowest score was Annie Young of Highland, Utah, who completed the 72-hole tournament at Mission Hills Country Club at 287 (-1).

“I played well and scored really well, especially in this wind,” said Young, a third-year professional who played collegiately at Oklahoma State University. “ It feels good. I know I won’t have to go to Florida for the second stage [of LPGA Q-School].”

Young put together rounds of 72-70-75-70 to tie for second with a group of four players that included former Tour member Anna Rawson of Australia. Yani Tseng (72) of Taiwan won the California sectional at 285 (-3).

Finishing among the top 10 was former Tour member Louise Friberg (70) of Helsingborg, Sweden, tied for sixth at even-par 288, and current Tour members Jennifer Ackerson (73) of Dallas, Jin Hyun Kim (74) of Seoul, Korea and Caryn Wilson (68) of Rancho Mirage, Calif. -- all tied for eighth at 289 (+1).

Rounding out the top 20 were current Tour members Kelly Lagedrost (76) of Brooksville, Fla., Hwan Hee Lee (74) of Las Vegas and Sarah Jane Kenyon (72) of Queensland, Australia – all tied for 14th at 290 (+2). Tied for 20th at 292 (+4) were: Song Yi Choi (77) of Seoul, Korea, Danah Ford (73) of Indianapolis, D’Rae Ward (71) of Weatherford, Texas, and Colombian Eileen Vargas (72).

“I was pretty consistent through nine holes, but on the back nine, I had a hard time with my putting,” said Lee, a second-year pro who played collegiately at the University of Nevada-Las Vegas. “[For] three days in a row, I’ve had like 10 three-putts. I should have been under par without my three-putts. Last year, I missed [the final stage of LPGA Qualifying] by one shot, so now, I’ll try to get ready for the finals.”

Choi says she also was plagued by poor putting on the quick greens and Lagedrost admitted that she snapped out of an early lull to turn around her final round.

“I started off a little rough with two early bogeys,” said Lagedrost. “But I snapped out of it and then I made birdies on holes 7 and 8, so that got me back into it. I played OK on the back nine, but the wind was getting pretty fierce out there. I had two stupid bogeys and two three-putts. It was an average round and my nerves were getting in there a little bit, but I liked how I came back from the bogeys.”

The second LPGA Tour Sectional Qualifying Tournament will be held Oct. 2-5, at Plantation Golf and Country Club’s Bobcat and Panther courses in Venice, Fla. The top-30 finishers from both the California and Florida sectional qualifiers will advance to the LPGA Final Qualifying Tournament, Nov. 28-Dec. 2, at LPGA International in Daytona Beach, Fla.
