Tour Alums Help Americans Regain Solheim Cup

HALMSTAD, SWEDEN. Sept. 16, 2007 – Four Duramed FUTURES Tour alums contributed points toward the U.S. Team’s stunning 16-12 win over Europe in today’s conclusion of the 10th Solheim Cup. The Americans rallied for 8 ½ points in today’s afternoon singles matches to Europe’s 3 ½ points to clinch the Cup.

Europe held a slim lead of 8 ½ to 7 ½ points following the completion of the four-ball rounds this morning, but the Americans stormed back in the 12 afternoon singles matches, stockpiling points to reclaim the Cup.

Among them was Duramed FUTURES Tour alum Stacy Prammanasudh, who surprised Norway’s Suzann Pettersen 2-up in her match for a point in her first Cup appearance. It was a timely win against the LPGA’s second-ranked player.

“I knew it was going to be a tough day because Suzann is a great player,” said Prammanasudh, who was the 2003 Duramed FUTURES Tour Player of the Year. “We were constantly pushing each other and that’s what match play is all about. I got two halves in the previous matches, so I’m just happy to finally get a win for a point.”

Tour alum Sherri Steinhauer secured a halve with Europe’s Becky Brewerton, while another alum, Angela Stanford, topped Europe’s Trish Johnson 3&2. Nicole Castrale, who earned her LPGA Tour card on the 2005 Duramed FUTURES Tour, proved successful in her first Cup appearance. The Californian topped European Cup rookie Bettina Hauert 3&2 -- which was the win that secured the Cup for the Americans with three matches still in progress.

“Of course, I’m going to be nervous, but I knew I needed to take care of myself and just keep executing shots, and that’s what I did,” said Castrale, who won twice on the 2005 Duramed FUTURES Tour.

Europe’s Laura Davies, also a Tour alum, earned a win in today’s singles with her 4&3 victory over Solheim Cup rookie Brittany Lincicome.

Of Duramed FUTURES Tour alums in this year’s Solheim Cup, point producers were: Castrale, who earned two points in four matches; Laura Diaz, 1.5 points in three matches; Davies, 2.5 points in four matches; Cristie Kerr, 1.5 points in five matches; Prammanasudh, two points in three matches; Stanford, 2.5 points in three matches; and Steinhauer, two points in three matches.

With this year’s win, the U.S. Team improves its overall record to 7-3, with two Cup victories abroad.
